Aslan, who took their name from the heroic lion in C.S. Lewis's series of books chronicling the fictional land of Narnia, (Aslan is the Turkish for 'Lion'), emerged from the working class areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin's Northside, in the mid 1980s. They released a demo single, 'This Is', in the Spring of 1986, which was a huge hit and became the longest ever play-listed single on Ireland's pop radio station, RTÉ 2fm.
Aslan's latest covers album "ASLAN UNCASE'd" is comprised completely of cover versions from top rock acts such as U2, David Bowie, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Billy Joel. The band began recording the album back in 2008. The album features Aslan's unique take on well-known rock hits like U2's ' All I Want Is You', Bowie's ' Quicksand', Rod Stewart's ' Maggie May', Billy Joel's ' Goodnight Saigon' and a remarkable rendition of John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy'. In a memorable tribute to their loyal following, Dignam & Co. collaborated with fans when deciding the ten tracks for the new album. Six out of the ten tracks covered by the band and featured in the album were suggested by fans. "UNCASE'd" has become an instant hit in Ireland. If you appreciated the band's haunting cover version of Pink Floyd's ' Wish You Were Here ' or enjoyed hits like ' This Is ' and ' Crazy World ', you won't be disappointed
